It is so easy for many Christians to think that they are really "deep" with God when in fact they are not. I have fallen into this trap myself ! You think no-one possibly prays as much as you do or no-one reads the Word as much as you do or possibly, nobody sings louder than you in church. However from personal experience, I know and really know that you can do all those things and still have a really shallow walk with God.
I have been reading The Power of A Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian. I just wanted to share an excerpt from this wonderful book with you that talks about shallowness. Here we go.
- If you follow the Lord only for what He can do for you, your walk with Him is shallow
May I dare say that many of us declare our love for God but really what we are declaring is the fact that we love the benefits we get from Him? It is not wrong to ask God for the things we need. It is not wrong for us to bring our pressing needs before Him. However, do we only relate with God when a loved one is sick and we are seeking healing or do we relate with God regardless of what is going on in our lives just because He is our Father ? God desires to do many good things for us. There is no doubt about that; the whole Bible speaks of the goodness of God towards us (I mean, He sent His Son to die in our place !Hello anyone ?!).
God definitely wants to bless us with many good things but beyond that, He desires intimacy and a deeper relationship with us. He wants us to come to Him as dear children run to a loving Father. He wants us to chat with Him and tell Him what is really on our hearts.
It's time to get deep with the Lord my dear ones !There's no better time than right now. Come on, He's been waiting.
