I have heard this so many times and it appears to be the reason why so many people are not in love with the Word. I remember in High School I was reading my Bible in class one day and at a point I was smiling to myself. A girl sitting beside me asked what I was smiling at and I mentioned I was smiling because of what I was reading from my Bible. She was amused and commented "The Bible can make you happy?"
Yes ! You can retrieve true joy from daily engaging God's Word. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It is also the only chapter in the Bible that consistently mentions the Word of God in every verse. Of course in the King James Version, you will see terms like "precepts" or "Your law". These all refer to the Word of God.
So how do we get rid of the drudgery of reading the Bible ? Ask God ; ask the Holy Spirit.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth....- John 16:13
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. The Word of God is Truth. Jesus said the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of Truth would guide us into all truth.
As the years have gone by, I have grown to love the Bible more and more. The Words of the Bible have become more alive to me. I have sensed the very presence of God with me as I receive deeper understanding and revelation of His Word. I have experienced the power, the healing and the deliverance that reading the Word of God can bring into a person's life. There are times when I have had questions and as I have sought the Lord in prayer and read His Word, the answer has come from nowhere else but His Word.
This Christian life can be the greatest adventure you will ever be on or it can become a boring set of traditions and rules. It is really up to you to decide. If you are looking for an exciting time in the Word of God, begin to ask the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, to give you understanding and watch as He does so.
If there is one prayer you can be sure God will answer, it is the prayer to understand His Word on a deeper level.

Good reading here & loved watching your children sing Jehovah Jireh! Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia
Amen! While I won't say I've never gone through temporary stages where my Bible reading has become a duty instead of a pleasure, I know it is the anchor for my life because it teaches me about my Lord. How precious it is that God gives us such a wonderful book to guide us and His Spirit to make it understandable. From one Bible-lover to another, Bless you! Gail (BibleLoveNotes.com)
